Our review
A knowing genre swerve: horror out, action-comedy in, with M3GAN recast as the lesser evil. That swap loses dread but gains a genuinely current worry — technology built for care being copied, weaponised and set loose by defence contractors, while its original argues for regulation and a seat at the table. The plot is overlong and over-plotted, and AMELIA is more boss-fight than character. Fans of the doll's attitude will still have fun; horror purists will miss the chill.
Entertainment 6/10 — Camp and energetic, but bloated at two hours and barely scary.
AI Realism 5/10 — Tech proliferation into military systems is realistic and timely; robot-versus-robot duels deciding it are not.
The AI, explained
The sequel's live wire is proliferation: technology built for care, copied and weaponised by defence contractors — while the original AI argues for regulation and a say in its own fate. Dual-use, governance and oversight, dressed as an action sequel.
