Our review
Reloaded trades the first film's clean revelation for philosophy lectures, then redeems itself with audacious action — the freeway pursuit and Burly Brawl remain benchmarks. Its best AI idea is genuinely unsettling: dissent itself can be budgeted for by the system that oppresses you, and Smith shows what a self-copying agent with a grudge looks like. The dialogue often explains wonder to death. Watch it if you love world-building and choreography enough to forgive exposition that parks the plot.
Entertainment 7/10 — Spectacular set pieces, sagging talky stretches.
AI Realism 6/10 — Rogue self-replication and system-level control are prescient abstractions, wrapped in metaphysics.
The AI, explained
Reloaded's chilling idea is that the rebellion itself is a designed feature — the system budgets for dissent and uses it to reboot. Smith is the counterpoint: a program that escapes deletion by copying itself, an early pop image of runaway replication.
