Devin
Devin by Cognition: what it does, how it works, pricing and adoption — sourced and dated.
Coding agents Closed product
Devin is Cognition's autonomous AI software engineer: a cloud-hosted agent that takes a task description, plans and executes it end-to-end in its own sandbox (shell, code editor, browser), and delivers the result as a pull request. Launched in 2024 as the first widely known 'AI software engineer', it has since gone multi-model and repriced from a $500 flat entry point to consumer-style tiers.
How it works
You hand Devin a task in plain language and it works in a cloud sandbox with a shell, editor and browser, returning a pull request for human review — the delegation is the product: assign, walk away, review the PR.
