GitHub Copilot

GitHub Copilot by GitHub (Microsoft): what it does, how it works, pricing and adoption — sourced and dated.

Coding agents Closed product

GitHub Copilot is the incumbent AI coding assistant, built into VS Code, JetBrains, Neovim and the GitHub platform itself. What began as autocomplete now includes chat, agent mode and a cloud coding agent that works issues end-to-end — with the deepest integration into pull requests, reviews and repository permissions of any entry here.

How it works

Two modes: an in-editor assistant (completions and chat as you type) and a cloud coding agent — assign it a GitHub issue and it plans, edits across files, runs checks and opens a pull request for review.
